Remedial Therapy

The programme targets children of all skill levels including children with special needs.

  • Ages: 2 years – 12 years
  • Duration: 30 minutes - 1 hour
  • Frequency: Once or twice a week
  • The programme is specially designed to meet the unique needs of your child!
  • Every therapy session is specifically planned according to the child’s emotional, physical and mental needs.
  • Consists of exercises and activities that will help the child to overcome certain motor developmental delays, thus increasing perceptual-motor functioning.
  • Focuses on the child as an individual.
  • The programme is ideal for children with movement delays or learning disabilities.
  • Remedial classes also aim to help children with special needs, for example, Cerebral Palsy, physically and mentally challenged, learning disabilities, Obesity, Down Syndrome, deafness, blindness, Autism, hyperactivity, etc.
  • Learning difficulty is characterized by a discrepancy between achievement and assessed intellectual ability (Bluechardt et al., 1995)
  • A diversity of symptoms are associated with learning disabilities (Lerner, 1993) Example: Attention span, cognitive strategies, motor and perceptual ability, language and mathematical skills etc.

The Remedial programme focuses on the following:

  • Spatial Orientation and Body awareness
  • Balance: Static - and Dynamic Balance
  • Coordination: Hand-eye - and Foot-eye coordination
  • Bilateral Integration
  • Vestibular functioning
  • Associated reactions
  • Reflexes and Rhythm
  • Muscle Tone: Hypo- and Hypertonic muscle tone
  • Manipulation skills (Ball skills)
  • Running speed and agility

Assessments:
Before we can start a child on the programme, a full assessment is performed using one of the following internationally recognized scientific test batteries. This will help determine the specific needs of your child.

  • Bruninks-Oseretsky
  • QNST (Quick Neurological Screening Test)
  • Pyfer
  • Fitness Gram
  • PDMS – 2 (Peabody Developmental Motor Scales Test

Remedial Therapy Terms and Conditions

  • The Remedial Therapy programme will be scheduled according to every child’s individual need.
  • Cancellation of an appointment must be made at least 2 hours prior to the scheduled appointment time. If you neglect to cancel the appointment, you will be charged in full for the session.
  • Termination of the programme requires that you give at least 1 month’s written notice prior to leaving the programme.
  • Payments must be made at the end of each session.
  • A once off registration fee is payable with enrollment.
